Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Avis Budget Group Sign New Connected Car Agreement, Giving a More Streamlined, Self-Serve and On-Demand Rental Experience in Europe
Customers of Avis Budget Group renting FCA vehicles in Europe will soon find it easier to pick up and return their vehicles, allowing them to manage their entire rental experience digitally and enabling lock/unlock technology.
More than 22,000 connected Fiat, Jeep®, Alfa Romeo, Lancia cars and Fiat Professional are projected to be added to the Avis Budget Group European fleet by the end of July 2020, with at least 8,000 digitally connected by the end of March.
Today, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) signed a new agreement with Avis Budget Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAR) to connect more than 22,000 Fiat, Jeep®, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Fiat Professional vehicles in Avis Budget Group’s European fleet.
A connected vehicle can allow Avis customers to manage their entire rental experience through the Avis mobile app, including choosing the exact vehicle they want, selecting an upgrade and extending the duration of their rental from their phones. Even returning a rental vehicle will be automated with connected technology, allowing customers to drop off their vehicles through a simple tap in the Avis app.
In addition, these connected vehicles will enable lock and unlock technology, providing a straight-to-vehicle, self-serve option for customers.
The connected FCA vehicles will provide valuable telemetry data in real time, including mileage, fuel level and updates on the mechanical condition of the car. Connectivity will also enable vehicles to get back on the road faster, giving increased availability for rental customers as Avis Budget Group fleet managers will be able to process information they need more quickly.
FCA is providing a ready-to-use telematics solution that offers a simplified and efficient way for Avis Budget Group to connect vehicles, reducing typical cost and complexity of implementing aftermarket solutions on its own.
The agreement now means that an additional 22,000 Fiat Jeep®, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Fiat Professional vehicles in the Avis Budget Group fleet will be connected, significantly contributing towards its goal of a fully connected global fleet.
FCA communicated to trade unions today the amount of the 2019 efficiency bonus to be paid to all Group employees in Italy this month, as provided in the FCA collective specific labor agreement.
Measurement of actual performance, which may vary by production unit, is based on the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) system.
The results of most of the Group's production plants are confirmed, among which once again Pomigliano and Verrone stand out, which for the fifth consecutive year have achieved excellence and will receive on average bonus around €1,675 euros. Some of the Group's companies recorded an improvement in results compared to last year.
All FCA employees in Italy will receive an average bonus slightly higher than 6% of their base compensation, which corresponds to around or more €1,350 on average.
The compensation scheme introduced in July 2015 and confirmed by the renewal of 2019, provides all Italian employees in the Group's productivity and quality results.
June 24 will mark Alfa Romeo's 110th anniversary, having dealt motorists’ from race tracks to their emotions.
For this anniversary, the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo has designed a new logo. Faithful to the brand’s most iconic elements, the "110" is a dynamic suggestion in graphic form of the transition between the past and the future.
A number of events will take place throughout the year, from the Mille Miglia and the Goodwood Festival of Speed via the celebrations at the Museo Storico. Alfa Romeo's anniversary is a big day for its countless fans too, whether or not they are card-carrying Alfa Romeo enthusiasts.
Several publications will also be issued to illustrate the most significant moments of Alfa Romeo in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Alfa Romeo is a sine qua non in the world history of cars. The manufacturer has been taken to the heart of not only its enthusiasts, but also those of all car fans.
On June 24, 2020, the Alfa Romeo brand will mark a new prestigious milestone: we will celebrate 110 years distinguished by technological innovations, sporting successes and memorable creations on four wheels. To celebrate the event, the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo has created a new logo to feature on the cars and to support all the brand's initiatives during all the events planned for 2020.
Concentrating all the activities and celebrations of such an important birthday on a single date would be unfeasible, so the brand will surprise its many fans and others with a busy calendar of events. And there's more. Brand-new publications will tell the untold story of Alfa Romeo, including points of view from outside the automotive world, involving a wide range of fields: curiosities, anecdotes and more from Italy's historical and social development. After all, the history of Alfa Romeo is intertwined with the best of Italian genius and encapsulates its character, in addition to the well-known technical and artistic heritage.
The new “110 Alfa Romeo” logo
To honor the 110th anniversary, the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo has created a specific logo to summarize the brand’s strengths, that unique ability to bring together technology, driving pleasure and beauty.
Continuing from the centenary celebrations, the number itself forms the logo. The first two “1” figures are presented in a perspective that gives the number an impression of transition from the past to the present, climaxing in the “0”.
One of the most characteristic and recognizable elements of the Alfa Romeo logo can be found within the “0”, the “Biscione”. The establishment date and this year, 1910-2020, will complete the bottom of the circle.
In this way, the numbers together with the iconic form will breathe life into an immediately recognizable, unfussy brand, as is the case for every car branded with the “Alfa Romeo” logo.
The Museo Storico Alfa Romeo, the hub of the celebrations
There is only one possible location for such a major event: on June 24, the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo will host both clubs and fans. The prestigious space for the Brand's most significant creations represents a tangible bridge between the eras and generations. Everyone can express and share their passion there by blowing out 110 candles.
Fans will have many opportunities around that date to celebrate the anniversary and to retrace the steps of a glorious history that constantly looks to the future.
Alfa Romeo passion at the major motoring festivals
Alfa Romeo has always been a linchpin of the major events in the sports and automotive calendar. For example, there are very close links with the Mille Miglia, which strengthen year after year in competition, victories and popular acclaim. Last year, Alfa Romeo achieved a double on the podium, by also winning the Sponsor Team Trophy. It would already be quite something to see gems such as the 1928 6C 1500 SS, the 1929 6C 1750 Zagato and the 1929 6C 1750 SS Young in the most evocative streets and locations in Italy, but the 110th anniversary will also see the “Red Arrow” feature from May 13 to 16 on the Brescia-Rome-Brescia track, with unmissable celebrations taking place in the run-up to the historical re-enactment.
Surprises will also be in store at Goodwood, where, from July 9 to 12, the renowned Festival of Speed will be held, a world-class staple for all fans of four wheels. Alfa Romeo will be the guest of honor and will receive a tribute to its anniversary in the park surrounding Goodwood House and during the legendary Hillclimb.
These and a wide range of other events throughout this packed year of celebrations will play their part in consolidating the legend of the Brand and the enthusiasm of motorists who decide not only to get behind the wheel of a mechanical creation built around driving pleasure, but also to satiate their passion.
From 1910 to 2020, our trajectory has combined the international appeal of the brand, engines, technology, adrenaline, history and fun: Alfa Romeo's anniversary is a big day for everyone.
