Fiat Concept Centoventi wins the "Red Dot Award 2019"
The revolutionary Fiat Concept Centoventi - the Fiat vision for the "democratic" electric mobility of the future - wins the Red Dot Award 2019, one of the world's most prestigious industrial design awards, in the "Design Concept" category.
The presentation ceremony for the "Red Dot Award 2019" was held today at Marina Bay, Singapore. Concept Centoventi received a prize in the Design Concept category, one of the three categories of the "Red Dot Design Award" competition. This coveted prize was assigned by an international jury of 21 of the world's top Design professionals and academics.
Olivier François, President Fiat Brand Global, commented: "I am extremely proud to have won the Red Dot Award. In fact, this prestigious prize reflects the exceptional innovation and significance of the Fiat Concept Centoventi, with implications reaching far beyond the automotive world itself, and is yet another birthday gift to mark the Fiat brand's 120th anniversary." François continued: "Fiat Concept Centoventi expresses Fiat's vision of "democratic" electric mobility, not limited to the urban context, and embodies Fiat's belief that "Less is more". In fact, Fiat Concept Centoventi transforms "Less" into "More": less bulky, less expensive and less overloaded, but also more customisable and more environmental friendly; in one word, more Fiat".
With an "unconventional" approach, the Fiat Concept Centoventi approaches the topic of electric mobility with an innovative business model: the Fiat Concept Centoventi is basic and yet completely customisable, at any time and in every details. The interchangeable interior accessories can be installed in "plug and play" mode - from the instrument cluster to the storage compartments, from seats to child restraint systems - by the customer himself. The exterior is wrappable, the bumpers can be customised and various types of roof are available; so the car can be "dressed" differently to reflect the changing seasons or to suit clients' personalities. What's more, the Fiat Concept Centoventi's range is modular, too. Thanks to the innovative battery architecture, the range can be varied to meet specific needs, from 100 km to 500 km. This makes the Fiat Concept Centoventi perfect for urban commuting and for a weekend away by the sea or in the mountains.
The Red Dot Design Award was founded in 1955 and is now one of the world's top industrial design awards. Structured in three large categories (Product Design, Communication Design and Concept Design), the "Red Dot Design Award" is intended for companies that give special importance to design. The members of the international jury, who include freelance designers, academics and journalists, assess the projects on the basis of criteria including innovation, formal quality, functionality and sustainability. This year more than 5,500 entries were received from 55 countries.
Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal Alfa Romeo Racing and CEO Sauber Motorsport AG:
"Unfortunately, this was another race that was compromised in the opening lap. Antonio made a good start and looked set to gain some places, but he found himself squeezed between Grosjean and Ricciardo. There was nothing he could do to avoid contact and sadly this damaged the car. We pitted Antonio for hards and a new nose, and then later on for softs during a Safety Car period, but he was always going to struggle to make up the gap. As for Kimi, a penalty for a false start meant coming back into the point from the back of the field was a tall order. It has been a few tough races, so we need to regroup and find our groove again for the final races of the season."
Kimi Räikkönen (car number 7):
Alfa Romeo Racing C38 (Chassis 06/Ferrari)
Fastest lap: 1:34.47.902
Tyres: Medium (9 laps) - Medium (18 laps) - Soft (26 laps)
"It was a very difficult race from the start. I jumped the lights and from that point we knew a penalty was coming. We tried our best and closed the gap with the rest of the field thanks to the Safety Car, but in the end we couldn't make up any more places than P13. The last four races have been very difficult for us, so we have to understand what has gone wrong and try to improve on it. We looked really strong in Spa, so the potential is there: we just have to get back to that level."
Antonio Giovinazzi (car number 99):
Alfa Romeo Racing C38 (Chassis 04/Ferrari)
Fastest lap: 1:34.52.338
Tyres: Soft (2 laps) - Hard (25 laps) - Medium (26 laps)
"It was definitely not the kind of race I was hoping for but it is what it is. I got stuck in the middle between Ricciardo and Grosjean on lap one: I don't know if Daniel knew I had Romain on the outside, but I ended up like in a sandwich. I tried to lift off and avoid contact, but that wasn't enough and we touched. We'll need to check if there was any further damage as it was quite a big hit and the car didn't really feel right afterwards."
Abarth 595 wins over readers of the German "Auto, Motor und Sport" magazine
The all-Italian "supercar" wins the "Autonis" contest organised by Auto, Motor und Sport in the "Minicar" category.
The Abarth 595 range, renewed for the 70th anniversary of the brand with the Scorpion badge, is available in five versions with different power levels ranging from 145 to 180 HP.
The Abarth 595 has won the "Autonis" contest organised by "Auto, Motor und Sport" in the "Minicar" category garnering 59% of the votes of the readers of the prestigious German magazine. After being named "Best Car" in January, for the fourth time in a row, the Italian "little supercar" strikes again in an "Auto, Motor und Sport" contest.
"We are very proud that our Abarth 595 has won this prestigious award", said Luca Napolitano, Head of Fiat and Abarth brand EMEA. "It confirms that our 'little supercar', which is an undisputed emblem of characteristically Italian creativity, sportiness and attention to detail, is highly appreciated by readers of the German Auto, Motor und Sport magazine. The enthusiasm for Abarth goes beyond national borders, as demonstrated by the big number of clubs and Abarth fans from all over Europe, who are expected to meet during forthcoming Abarth Days 2019. The largest international gathering of Abarth will be held in Milan on the weekend of October 5th and 6th and will bring together thousands of fans to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Scorpion".
The 595 range is the evolution of the icon of the brand expressed in various power levels, from 145 to 180 HP and Euro 6D-Temp engines, to respond to the needs of each customer. The Competizione and Turismo versions, in the hatchback and convertible configurations, of the range express the two souls of Abarth - performance the first and style the second. The new Abarth 595 Pista special edition, available with manual or automatic transmission is focused on performance as ever and dedicated to the younger fans of the Scorpion. Characterised by a new matte grey livery, striking green accents and new interiors, the 595 Pista is even more powerful (fitting a new Garrett turbine, the new engine delivers 165 HP) and is equipped with the iconic Record Monza Active exhaust and with Koni rear suspension with FSD technology. The 595 entry level, with its 145 HP, and the exclusive Abarth 595 esseesse, inspired by the tuning kit of the Seventies, complete the line-up.
One hundred models, either new or renewed, divided into ten categories were short-listed for the "Autonis" contest. For each model, the result within its category is an indicator of the appreciation level of the panel of readers.

The official Mopar e-Store dedicated to accessories, spare parts and customer services for FCA vehicles opens for everyone today.
It is the most recent step in the digital transformation of Mopar that began several months ago with the creation of an Amazon marketplace and continued with the opening, on select European markets, of an online store dedicated to workshops and body shops, which has been very successful in terms of visits, site registrations and sales.
Today, with the extension to all retail customers, the Mopar e-Store is preparing to offer a unique, totally multi-channel experience in Europe that also involves the official FCA service network in the online purchasing process.
The cornerstone of the experience is a diversified range of services tailored for each FCA vehicle. Every customer can conveniently configure and purchase coupons, service packages, personalised services and much more while booking the appointment at the most convenient dealer on the day and at the time they want. That is not all. The Mopar e-Store has over 6,000 Genuine Mopar Spare Parts, the only ones that can boast FCA certified quality, readily on stock in addition to a selection of around 2,000 Authentic Accessories designed to enhance the design and functionality of each individual FCA vehicle.
Furthermore, customers are free to choose between "Click & Collect" with delivery to the most convenient FCA dealer or and the classic home delivery service by express courier.
To celebrate the launch of the store, Mopar offers free shipping for the first 30 days on all orders placed.
By the end of the year, the Mopar e-Store will be available in Italy, Spain, Great Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland, before being extended to all the main EMEA countries in 2020.
As a result, FCA is the first automaker in Europe to offer a totally innovative and multi-channel online shopping experience, which is increasingly attentive and close to the needs of customers and professionals.
From 26 to 28 September, the Lombardy Region headquarters building in Milan will host the third edition of "e_mob, the e-Mobility Festival", with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles playing a leading role. As well as a round table discussion and a seminar, where FCA will be present to provide information about the activities it has launched with regard to sustainable mobility, in the covered outdoor area visitors will be able to admire the Fiat Centoventi, the Jeep Compass PHEV and the Fiat Professional Ducato Electric, the last two of which will already be available on the market with effect from 2020.
The number of topics discussed during the three-day festival of electric mobility will be vast: first and foremost, how to make the new electric mobility easily usable and beneficial for customers, meaning the development of genuine solutions to simplify and increase the efficiency of charging procedure and times. This topic will be covered by companies working to supply domestic and business charging solutions, such as EnelX: FCA has recently signed two agreements with this firm and with Engie for the development of new electric mobility solutions, to support the production and marketing of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) envisaged by the Group business plan for 2018- 2022. Thanks to these agreements, the FCA sales network will be able to offer charging solutions and innovative services specifically designed for private and business customers. What's more, the programme includes the development and trial of new technologies to reduce the total cost of ownership of electric vehicles, to benefit the customer.
The many topics scheduled for the three-day Milan event include an important discussion concerning the need to simplify the current procedures required for the installation of electric vehicle charging points in the communal areas of apartment blocks. Forecasts predict that this charging mode will be one of the most widely used by customers in the near future.
The exhibition of vehicles is certain to prove just as interesting, starting from the Centoventi, the concept car that gives an innovative foretaste of the Fiat brand's guidelines, stylistic language and future technology for the next few years.
Thanks to the hybrid technology also used for the Renegade, the Jeep Compass - in the brand's purest style - will further improve its capability with a higher torque, achieved through the combination of the two propulsion systems. What's more, the rear-axle drive will be provided not by a propeller shaft but by the dedicated electric motor, allowing the two axles to be separated, with the torque controlled independently and more effectively than in a mechanical system.
On the other hand, the Ducato Electric - developed and designed to the FCA Group's most advanced quality standards - will be available in all body variants with the same load volumes as the current models. The electric version will be particularly suitable for professionals operating in specific areas of business (from online commerce to postal and courier services, home ready-to-eat food deliveries and local transport) who need to ensure access to city centres.
