Ducato elected "Best camper base of the year" for the eleventh consecutive time
  • Readers of German trade magazine Promobil have elected Ducato "Best camper base 2018", once again confirming its leadership in this segment.
  • It continues its absolute dominance of the European market, where about 3 of every 4 campers sold are on a Ducato base.[/li]
  • And this best-selling Fiat Professional model's 3 millionth vehicle was actually a Ducato camper base.
Ducato continues its unbroken sequence of international awards by fighting off big-name competitors to win the title of "Best camper base 2018" for the eleventh consecutive time. This coveted award is assigned by the readers of "Promobil", the German specialist magazine that has provided a major reference point in the recreational vehicle sector for more than 25 years. What's more, a Ducato camper base was the 3 millionth vehicle of this best-selling Fiat Professional model.

This dual success confirms customers' confidence in the Ducato model as the ideal leisure vehicle base, making it an amazing Italian success story right around the globe. In fact, it is the only base specifically created for the camper sector, a fast-growing industry: registrations in 2017 recorded an increase of more than 10% compared to the previous year. These figures strongly highlight the widespread return to the "outdoor life", as people seek to re-establish a link with the environment. As a consequence, the camper is viewed more and more as a lifestyle enabler: not just a vehicle for use on holidays, but a means to freedom, for users to go wherever they want, whenever they want.

Ducato is built at the Sevel Sud Plant in the Val di Sangro (Europe's largest light commercial vehicle plant, which holds World Class Manufacturing silver level and occupies an area of more than 1,200,000 square metres), and benefits from more than 36 years of experience: from 1981 to the present, its successful features have been continually perfected, and Ducato is now a genuine trendsetter, produced in over 10,000 variants and sold in more than 80 countries worldwide. A global model and a reference for its class. Furthermore, the Ducato camper base was designed and developed together with the top camper producers in Europe, in order to achieve the best integrated solutions for both base and living pod.

Ducato is "Leader in freedom"

This is a concept with a clearly defined meaning. 'Freedom' is what Fiat Professional promises to customers by guaranteeing that it will be on hand with a solution to any problem they may have during their holiday. "Leader", because today the Brand's offer of specific services for the motorhome world is unique and unrivalled on the market. Over the years, the Ducato camper base has continually evolved, with regard to both the product and also the development of services shaped to the needs of camper travellers. The ability to listen to customers - which starts with Customer Care and continues in Fiat Professional's workshops - means being able not only to respond efficiently to current needs, but also to plan ahead for those of the future.

The underlying principle is that anyone buying a camper buys not just a vehicle but a holiday too. Therefore, the service concept does not stop with product assistance but includes caring for customers on holiday by being on hand at all times. Specifically, a complete, dedicated network located along camper users' favourite routes, a dedicated Customer Care Centre where every camper can access knowledge and expertise on the camper world, and roadside assistance ready to deliver help fast throughout Europe and beyond.

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, camper users can call the dedicated Customer Care Centre and talk, in their own language, to one of the twenty "Fiat Camper Brand Ambassadors". The Ambassador's mission is to resolve the customer's problem as fast as possible, interfacing with and coordinating the company departments involved, and constantly maintaining a dialogue based on understanding and expertise with the customer. To guarantee this, the dedicate team's members receive continual training and updates all year long, and attend the major European shows in the sector, to garner optimal, increasingly first-hand knowledge of the world of camper vans and their users.

Besides this, Customer Care is more and more closely integrated with the work of the roadside assistance services and workshops: all camper owners can count on a mobile workshop able to reach them in no fewer than 44 different countries, and on telephone support round the clock, 7 days a week, which contacts them to update them on repair procedures and times, while giving the workshop active support to facilitate diagnosis and ensure spare parts are delivered in the shortest possible time.

The organisation also delivers a complete range of services, all tailored to the motorhome customer's needs, from the priceless "Maximum Care Camper" international warranty extensions - which covers all the Ducato's mechanical and electrical components, with various duration and mileage options - to the innovative "Fiat Ducato Camper Mobile" app, which also provides tourist information, and has now been downloaded by more than 110,000 camper owners. Today, anyone travelling by Ducato Motorhome knows they can rely on more than 6,500 Fiat Professional service centres, equipped to maintain and repair the Ducato base, more than 1,800 of which are specific Fiat Camper Assistance points.

Fiat Professional has been at the side of those who travel by camper van for years: this is confirmed by attendance at more than 10 European trade shows each year, a dedicated website , which averages 74,000 visits a month, the "Fiat Ducato Camper" Facebook page with more than 56,000 fans, and the "Fiat Camper Mobile" app with over 110,000 downloads. Furthermore, it invests time and resources to continually improve products and services, together with Mopar - the brand overseeing services, customer care, original parts and accessories for the FCA brands.

An award double for Alfa Romeo in the UK

  • Giulia Quadrifoglio was named "Best Sports and Performance Car" at the British What Car? magazine's "What Car? Car of the Year 2018" awards.
  • It is the seventh prize the sports sedan has won in the United Kingdom in the last 12 months.
  • Stelvio was named "Premium SUV" at the Company Car Today CCT100 Awards 2018.

Alfa Romeo continues to scoop up a continuous flow of prizes and awards. Giulia Quadrifoglio was named "Best Sports and Performance Car" at the 2018 edition of British What Car? magazine's "Car of the Year" awards, while Stelvio triumphed in the "Premium SUV" category at the first edition of the Company Car Today CCT100 Awards.

The sports sedan was scrutinised by the What Car? team of industry experts, seeing off fierce competition from big-name rivals. The "Best Sports and Performance Car" title is the latest in a long series: Giulia has won no fewer than seven industry awards in the United Kingdom alone during the last 12 months.
Equipped with the 375 kW (510 HP) 2.9 V6 Biturbo petrol powerplant, this version boasts a class-topping weight/power ratio - 2.99 kg/HP - thanks to the extensive use of ultra-lightweight materials, such as carbon fibre, for the roof, bonnet, front splitter, rear nolder and side skirt inserts. The weight of the Quadrifoglio version can be further reduced using two components which are available upon request: carbon ceramic brake discs and Sparco seats with a carbon fibre rear structural frame. Also at the 2018 edition of the British What Car? magazine's "What Car? Car of the Year" awards, the Alfa Romeo Giulia received a nomination in the "Executive Saloon" category, while the Stelvio was amongst the nominees in the "Large SUV" class.

The brand's first SUV was presented with the "Premium SUV" title at the inaugural edition of the CCT100 Awards organised by Company Car Today. The CCT100 award competition is open to the best models available to corporate fleet buyers, with titles assigned by a jury of industry experts. The winners in each category were selected on the basis of a vast range of criteria, including emissions, corporate fleet sales volumes, residual value, driver desirability, value, practicality and appeal.

The Stelvio achieved first prize by virtue of its low emission volume and safety features, not to mention its elegant, sporty style and the outstanding driving experience it offers. These are not the only prerogatives that make Stelvio unique and extremely popular: the SUV expresses all the emotions and superlative performances intrinsic to the genuine "Alfa spirit", now combined in a sport utility vehicle for the first time in over a century of history. What's more, in the Quadrifoglio trim level, Stelvio has proved itself the fastest SUV in its class by setting the lap record at the Nürburgring, and proudly holds the coveted Euro NCAP five star rating.

FCA Heritage stars at “Automotoretrò 2018”

  • The international classic car show will be held at Lingotto Fiere, Turin, from 1 to 4 February, starring FCA Heritage with a unique, striking display area.
  • Visitors will be able to admire a selection of historic cars - Fiat-Abarth 850 TC, Alfa Romeo Spider, Lancia Fulvia Coupé Montecarlo and Spidereuropa Pininfarina - and two current production models: the exquisite Abarth 695 Rivale and the stunning Fiat 124 Spider.
  • Roberto Giolito, Head of FCA Heritage is scheduled to talk at 12.30 pm on the 1st of February, introducing some major innovations in his Department's operations.

FCA Heritage is to take part in the 36th edition of "Automotoretrò", to be staged at Lingotto Fiere, Turin from the 1st to the 4th of February together with the ninth edition of "Automotoracing". One of the event's most exciting sessions is sure to be the presentation scheduled at 12.30 am on the 1st of February at the Lingotto Congress Centre, where Director Roberto Giolito will be introducing major novelties in the operations of FCA Heritage, the Group Department dedicated to conserving and promoting the historic legacy of the Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Abarth brands.

FCA Heritage returns to "Automotoretrò" with a single large stand (the distinctive installation was debuted at the last edition of the Turin show), which hosts all four brands represented by the Department, and where visitors will be able to admire four historic cars and two current models. There could be no better way of underlining both the unique character of FCA's Italian brands and the historic and engineering continuity which links the cars of the past to those of the present. The stand will display the final and most sophisticated evolutions of models that have shaped Italian motoring history: Alfa Romeo Spider, Lancia Fulvia Coupé Montecarlo and Spidereuropa Pininfarina. Alongside them, a fascinating Fiat-Abarth 850 TC - soon to undergo complete restoration - and two absolutely new models: Fiat 124 Spider, a tribute to the iconic car of the past which delivers an authentic roadster experience, steeped in Italian emotion, technology and style, and Abarth 695 Rivale: the special series that brings together Abarth and Riva, two Italian brands with a shared excellence in attention to every detail and outstanding performances.

The spectacular "Automotoretrò" stand is a reproduction of a Fifties garage, referencing objects and equipment all directly or indirectly related to mechanical work. Continuing this language, facilities such as the offices and storage space are contained in two large crates. The stand's design approach is based on the recovery of fundamental features from the "heritage" world.

With classic and current cars, the announcement of new projects and an eye-catching stand, everything is in place to welcome a knowledgeable public of automotive enthusiasts from all over Europe. As always, classic car lovers also have access to the website, the portal that serves as the online showroom of the FCA Heritage department and aims to be a point of reference for all those interested in the stories, events and initiatives involving the classic cars of the Group's Italian brands. Owners of classic Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia vehicles will also be able to request the "Certificate of Origin" both online and at the stand, while for Lancia and Abarth, restoration services and certificates of authenticity are available.

Finally, FCA Heritage is inviting all visitors to Automotoretrò to test the new app which aims at becoming the mobile one-stop-shop for owners of the classic cars of the Italian brands of the Group, in world preview. To test and comment on their experience, visitors can go to the FCA Heritage stand, where they can also sign up for the portal newsletter to be notified when the app goes live.

Fiat-Abarth 850 TC

Carlo Abarth is world-famous for his courage in transforming simple mass-market runabouts into brilliant racing cars capable of defeating all comers on Europe's top tracks. The Fiat-Abarth 850 TC is one of the milestones in Abarth's constant development work on the basis of the Fiat 600 D. With sophisticated technical changes to its setups but above all to its mechanicals, the 850 TC got up to 140 km/h due to its light weight (610 kg) and the 52 horsepower squeezed out of its engine, upgraded to 847 cc. The car displayed at Automotoretrò has a unique back-story, because it is not an "ordinary" racing car, but one of the unmarked cars used by the Italian Finance Police in the fight against smuggling. A car which looks at first glance like a run-of-the-mill Fiat 600, but which can actually provide stunning performances. It is on show in its current condition, before planned thorough restoration by FCA Heritage.

Lancia Fulvia Coupé Montecarlo

With lines inspired by elegant Riva motor launches, the Fulvia Coupé set its seal on an era for Lancia, a period of daring design and countless victories. The 14 thousand units built at the Chivasso plant, which laid the foundations for Italian rallying predominance, sowed the seed for the many wins by the Stratos, the 037 and all the Delta versions in the subsequent decades. The Montecarlo version originated from the idea of creating a car to commemorate Munari and Mannucci's famous victory in the 1972 Montecarlo Rally. The car was inspired by the livery of the splendid 1.6 HF "fanalone", built on the basis of the production Fulvia Coupé series II, with 90 horsepower engine providing a top speed of 170 km/h. With no bumpers and matte black painted bonnet and boot, the Fulvia Montecarlo cars were a success within a success, to the point where production continued even after the restyling known as the "Fulvia 3". The car exhibited at Automotoretrò by FCA Heritage is from this final series, in the rare blue colour.

Spidereuropa Pininfarina

The 124 Sport Spider was one of the longest-lived of the Fiat cars built in the last century. Styled by Pininfarina in 1966, it enjoyed a dual career of unflagging success in Europe and America until 1985. Twenty years in which the curvy, compact Spider, created by shortening the chassis of the 124 sedan, was modified in response to the mechanical upgrading of various Fiat models, remaining in production for the States alone from 1975 onwards. In 1982, its ceaseless success and demand from the European market led Pininfarina to reintroduce the Spidereuropa, a reworking of the timeless convertible to suit European requirements, on this side of the Atlantic. The gem displayed by FCA Heritage on its Automotoretrò stand is one of the first Spidereuropa Pininfarina cars to be built, in perfect, as-new condition. It has only done 10,000 kilometres: for its 105 horsepower two litre engine, little more than the running-in distance!

Alfa Romeo Spider

The icon of "Italian style" convertibles, the Alfa Romeo Spider displayed on the stand belongs to the last version of this glorious model to be built, launched in 1966 as the final work of Battista Pininfarina in person. There were three series during the car's thirty-year lifetime: "cuttlefish bone", "Kamm tail" and "aerodynamic", before the 1990 restyling, also by the Pininfarina design centre, which restored the original purity of line. Developed on the engineering base of the Giulietta/Giulia Spider cars, the Milanese convertible was fitted with the various evolutions of the Giulia engines: 1600, 1300, 1750 and 2000. In the final series, the magnificent two litre powerplant was modernised with the adoption of electronic ignition and injection. The car on display, which has always belonged to FCA, was used for technical tests such as the custom-colour test, which makes it a virtually unique Alfa Romeo.
